As reported earlier, Home United FC’s central defender Valery Heik has left the Club to pursue a new adventure in the Thai Premier League. The 2009 S-League Player of the Year will join Bangkok Glass FC, who in recent years took part in the RHB Singapore Cup.
We caught up with Valery Heik for an exclusive interview before he left our shores.
You came to Singapore in 2008 and joined Home United FC. How did that happen?
My good friend Kengne Ludovick was already playing for HUFC and he spoke good things about the Club and the S-League. He told me HUFC was looking for a defender and asked if i was interested to venture into a foreign league. I thought about it and flew over for trials with the Club and the rest was history.
In these four years playing for HUFC, which was your most memorable moment?
It has to be this season when we lifted the RHB Singapore Cup. I was very happy as this was my first silverware and also helped the Club break the barren run of trophies.
You are joining Bangkok Glass FC for the 2012 season. How did this deal came about?
They have been enquiring through my agent for a while. As my contract ended with HUFC, i decided to listen to their offer. It’s a good offer and i want to try out a new environment after spending four years here. I’ve seen how the Thais play, and i want to test myself in the Thai Premier League.
Any last comments?
I want to thank HUFC for the memorable four years. The Club has taken care of me well and i am very happy to have spent four years here. In football, there are many challenges in a player’s career and now i want to take on a new challenge and thus my decision to leave HUFC for the Thai Premier League.
I have made many friends here and i will stay in touch. I wish HUFC all the best and hope the Club can continue winning trophies!
